Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Engineering

Overview of the programme
The demand for skilled and qualified engineers continues to grow. This can be met via the academic route but there will also be a need for engineers with workplace experience to progress to more advanced roles, bringing their years of practical experience with new and more advanced skills to bear.

WOI offers this course to cater for UK and international needs for engineers and this is equivalent to the first year of an honours degree in engineering. Students will have options to complete a further “top-up” to achieve a full degree.

Course Structure and Content
Broad principles of engineering are covered for all students and thereafter you can choose one of four pathways.

  1. Electrical Engineering: units on mathematics, research and practice and electrical engineering principles. Options: materials technology, electrical supply and distribution and programmable logic controllers.
  2. Electronics Engineering: units on mathematics, research and practice and electrical engineering principles. Options: need analogue circuits, data communication and networks, microcomputers and sequential logic and circuits.
  3. Mechanical: units on mathematics, research and practice and mechanical engineering principles. Options: applied heat, mechanical plant systems and pneumatics and hydraulics.
  4. Instrumentation: units on mathematics, research and practice, electrical engineering principles and instrument measuring systems. Options-  analogue circuits, combinational logic and circuits, distributed control systems, and transmission of measurement signals


Entry Requirements:
School leaving qualifications set is required equivalent to at least 1 A level or a diploma (16-18 education) and this must include Mathematics and a science subject preferably Physics. Also for international students IELTS 6.0 is required or you must enrol on an English course.

Duration and progression
Students normally qualify for in one year but in part time mode or sandwich mode this may take up to two years.

Costs
£950 per year for UK/EU students; international students- £3800 per year. Bursaries (financial support) may be available.
