Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)

Overview of the programme
CTLLS is for those who want to work in the basic level of teaching role within the Lifelong Learning Sector allowing the individual to be licensed within the UK as Associate Teaching Level.

The award is designed to support you in achieving LLUK recognised Associate Teacher professional status as you develop as an excellent practitioner by developing your professional capabilities in becoming a self-evaluative and reflective education professional, planning, resourcing, managing, assessing and evaluating learning in your specialist area, managing the wide range of Lifelong Students  to be found in the sector, growing your understanding of the Lifelong Learning Sector and of how you might play an active role in its future development and working as part of a team of education professionals. Thus, you will build on your knowledge and experience through study at higher education level in order to enhance your understanding of your current professional roles. It is designed specifically for people who need to combine work and study or full time students combining study with placement and/or work.

Course Structure
In addition to working as an Associate teacher in the sector for one year and being observed teaching throughout this time, you will study the following modules. There are three main modules to study:

  1. Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  2. Planning and Enabling Learning
  3. Principles and Practice of Assessment


Once you have CTLLS, and as your role as a teacher grows to become a Full Role, you can progress onto the Postgraduate Diploma (DTLLS).

Entry Requirements
UK/EU students:

A minimum of a Level 3 qualification or equivalent in the specialist subject relevant to their teaching, e.g. GCE A Level, NVQ3, BTEC Higher, L3 Certificate in Key Skills, HND. Equivalence will be utilised in specialisms where no Level 3 qualification exists. Plus the following literacy level: GCSE in English at Grade C or better or Level 2 equivalent already held or gained as part of initial needs analysis and induction.

International students:
An elementary teaching qualification or a specialised degree in Science, Language (English), Mathematics, Statistics, Management etc. Plus a min of IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent)

Duration: 8 - 10 Months (or 1 Academic Year)
